Gill Given Ultimatum Ahead Of Vizag Test, Was Ready To Play Ranji: Report
Shubman Gill gave a perfect reply to his critics with a brilliant century on Day 3 of the second Test match against England in Vishakhapatnam.
Indian cricket team batter Shubman Gill gave a perfect reply to his critics with a brilliant century on Day 3 of the second Test match against England in Vishakhapatnam on Sunday. Gill had a couple of close shaves at the start of his knock but the right-hander bounced back and ended up slamming 104 off 147 deliveries. It was a much-needed ton for Gill who has struggled in Test cricket lately and according to a report by Indian Express, he even received an ultimatum from the team management of the Test match.
The report claimed that Gill was given the ultimatum after his duck in the second innings of the first Test and he was likely to play Ranji Trophy to work on his technique. If Gill did not perform well in this match, it was likely that he would have travelled to Mohali where Punjab will host Gujarat from February 9.
“I will go and play the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Mohali,” Gill told one of his family members.
Spinners Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed helped England bowl out India for 255, with the tourists needing a record 399 to win the second Test after Shubman Gill's century on Sunday.
A determined and composed knock acknowledged by the Vizag crowd

Gill hit 104, but India lost regular wickets after pace bowler James Anderson removed the openers in the morning and the hosts' innings ended in the third session in Visakhapatnam.
Hartley took four wickets with his left-arm spin before Ahmed finally got a stubborn Ravichandran Ashwin out for 29 to wrap up the innings with his third strike.
The highest fourth-innings target successfully chased against India was England's 378 at Edgbaston in 2022, and the biggest in India was when the hosts got 387 against England in 2008.
Gill hit his third Test ton and first in his 12 innings since March 2023, to pull India out from 122-4 with two key stands including 89 runs with Axar Patel.
Gill reached the hundred with a single off debutant spinner Shoaib Bashir and raised his bat to a cheering Sunday crowd.
