DG Okonjo-Iweala calls for re-imagining of global trade system amid increasing challenges

Times are tense for trade as a result of geo-political dynamics but the current challenges can be the opportunity to transform the global trading system, said WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on 26 October. Delivering the 2024 Per Jacobsson Lecture during the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington D.C., DG Okonjo-Iweala recalled the historical importance of the multilateral trading system embodied by the WTO and underlined its potential to solve modern challenges.
