WATER Robotics Raises $2.5 Mn To Build India’s First Robotic Bed

AI startup WATER Robotics has secured $2.5 Mn (about ₹24 Cr) in a fresh funding round led by Endiya Partners, with participation from India’s national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, Darwinbox cofounder Rohit Chennamaneni and Swiggy cofounder Nandan Reddy, among others.
Most of the fresh capital will be used in enhancing its R&D capabilities and a portion of the capital will go into data collection, WATER founder and CEO Teja Vinukollu told Inc42.
Founded in 2024 by Vinukollu and Haneesh Mourya Desu, WATER Robotics is a biophysical intelligence startup that builds adaptive intelligent surfaces, engineered end –to-end as one closed loop.
Its flagship product, CAMA, is a robotic bed that uses 10,752 pressure sensors and 42 actuators to sense a person’s body and adjust the surface as per it in real time. The bed is built with a foundational model called VORTEX, designed to sense, understand, and gently respond to the human body in real time.
The Hyderabad-based startup’s broader vision is to build a “Physical OS” for furniture and other surfaces that can sense, understand and respond to humans.
The development comes at a time when there is a growing interest for exploring new levels of autonomy through physical AI in India.
To achieve this, businesses have come up with missions like autonomous robots that perform daily operations at warehouses, manufacturing units, roads, homes, and other places.
Amid rapid increase in adoption of robotics technologies by enterprises and consumers, Indian startup investors are increasingly on the look out of startups operating in the physical AI space. For instance, SwitchOn raised $8 Mn (about ₹ 77 Cr) in a pre-Series B funding round in July. Prior to that, robotics startup Mowito raised $3 Mn in a pre-seed funding round to build AI models that train industrial robots by observing human operators.
Overall, the India robotics market is now projected to grow to an over $7 Bn industry by 2034, growing by a CAGR of 15.7% from about $2 Bn in 2025. This growth is also supported by government initiatives aimed at promoting indigenous manufacturing and digital transformation.
