Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler startup Simple Energy has launched its first family escooter, the Simple Wave, at an introductory starting price of ₹1.10 Lakh (ex-showroom).

The lineup comprises six models across three variants: the Simple Wave S, Simple Wave, and Simple Wave+. All of them have different battery capacities, displays, and connected features.

The top-end Simple Wave+ comes with a 5 kWh battery pack, an IDC-certified range of 243 km, and a top speed of 90 kmph. It is powered by a 6.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, which generates 179 Nm of wheel torque.

The other models come with battery capacities of 3.7 kWh, 2.7 kWh, and 2.2 kWh, offering IDC-certified ranges of 171 km, 132 km, and 110 km, respectively.

Bookings for the Simple Wave have opened across the startup’s stores and website, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the last week of September.

The escooter range comes with portable chargers and supports both standard and fast charging. Simple Energy claimed that its top model supports 0-80% charging in a minimum 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Simple Energy’s Expansion

Simple Energy was founded in 2019 by Rajkumar and Shreshth Mishra, while Ankit Gupta later joined the startup as a cofounder. It competes against Ola Electric, Ather Energy, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Hero MotorCorp in the electric two-wheeler segment.

Simple Energy currently has the capacity to manufacture 3,000 scooters a month. The startup said it is currently selling around 1,500 escooters a month through more than 75 outlets across 63 cities. It plans to increase monthly sales to 10,000 units by March 2027 by expanding its production capacity and retail network.

It expects its manufacturing capacity utilisation to rise to 75-80% by the end of the next financial year from around 35% currently.

In June, the startup raised ₹250 Cr in a mix of debt and equity as it prepared to transition into a full-stack EV OEM and gear up for an IPO. Simple Energy plans to use the capital primarily to scale up manufacturing capacity and expand production, while the remaining funds will go toward sales, marketing, and R&D to strengthen its product roadmap and customer experience.

Its investors include the family office of Thyrocare founder Arokiaswamy Velumani, Haran Family Office, Desai Family Office, and Vasavi Family Office. The startup has raised more than $84 Mn to date.

EV Launches Gather Pace

The Simple Wave’s launch comes days after rivals Ola Electric and Ather Energy rolled out new scooters targeting the mass-market E2W segment.

Last week, Ola Electric launched its S1Z escooter in two variants priced at ₹79,999 and ₹99,999. The variants offer IDC-certified ranges of 179 km and 301 km, respectively.

The S1Z is Ola Electric’s first scooter range powered by its locally developed 46-series LFP Bharat Cell technology.

Around the same time, Ather Energy launched the Konarc family escooter at a starting price of ₹99,999. The scooter, built on Ather’s new EL platform, comes in six variants across the S and Z product lines and offers IDC-certified range options of 100 km, 120 km, 165 km, and 200 km.

The launches come as electric two-wheeler manufacturers increasingly focus on affordable models, practical range, and commuter-oriented designs to attract buyers beyond the premium early-adopter segment.

As per Vahan data, electric two-wheeler registrations fell 16.2% MoM to 1.72 Lakh units in August from 2.05 Lakh units in July. However, registrations jumped 64% YoY from 1.05 Lakh units in August last year.
