Pixxel Bags $100 Mn To Ramp Up Satellite Manufacturing, Imaging

Google-backed spacetech startup Pixxel has raised $100 Mn (about ₹945 Cr) in its Series C funding round co-led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek and UK-based spacetech investor Seraphim.
New investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment also participated in the round, along with existing backers Radical Ventures, growX ventures, and others.
The latest investment takes Pixxel’s total funding to $195 Mn. The startup said that the Series C was the single-largest funding round raised by a spacetech company in India. However, it did not disclose the valuation at which the funding was raised.
The Bengaluru-based startup will use the fresh capital to expand its satellite sensing capabilities, further develop its Earth intelligence platform Aurora, deepen its work on sovereign space systems, and increase its satellite manufacturing capacity.
Pixxel said it would widen its sensing capabilities through its upcoming Honeybee constellation, high-resolution optical imaging satellites, and other technologies. Aurora will act as the software layer combining data captured by these satellites to generate insights for governments, businesses, and research institutions.
The startup will also ramp up production at Gigapixxel, its satellite manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. Inaugurated in 2024, the facility was designed to handle more than 20 satellites simultaneously and manufacture up to 40 satellites a year.
“Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet. Hyperspectral imaging gave us a fundamentally new way to see Earth. This new investment gives us the scale to turn that vision into planetary infrastructure,” Pixxel founder and CEO Awais Ahmed said.
Beyond Hyperspectral Imaging
Founded in 2019 by BITS Pilani alumni Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel started by developing hyperspectral Earth observation satellites.
Unlike conventional imaging satellites, hyperspectral satellites capture light across a large number of narrow wavelength bands. This allows them to identify materials and changes on the Earth’s surface that may not be visible in ordinary satellite images.
The data can be used across agriculture, mining, oil and gas, environmental monitoring, defence, and disaster management.
Pixxel currently operates six Firefly hyperspectral satellites and claims that they form the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral satellite constellation. The first three Firefly satellites were launched aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-12 mission in January 2025, marking the deployment of India’s first private satellite constellation.
The startup has secured contracts from NASA and the US National Reconnaissance Office, besides winning multiple iDEX challenges from India’s Ministry of Defence.
It has also been selected to lead the development of India’s first public-private Earth observation satellite constellation under IN-SPACe. The proposed constellation will comprise 12 satellites carrying different types of imaging sensors.
Besides Earth observation, Pixxel has partnered with AI unicorn Sarvam to develop Pathfinder, a 200-kilogram orbital data centre demonstration satellite. Pixxel will design, launch, and operate the satellite, while Sarvam will enable AI training and inference in orbit.
Pixxel’s fundraise comes amid growing investor interest and commercial activity in India’s private spacetech ecosystem.
In May, Skyroot Aerospace raised $60 Mn at a pre-money valuation of $1.1 Bn, becoming India’s first spacetech unicorn. It followed this by completing the country’s first private orbital rocket mission in July, placing customer payloads into low-Earth orbit using its Vikram-1 launch vehicle.
Besides Pixxel and Skyroot, startups such as Agnikul Cosmos, Digantara, Bellatrix Aerospace, GalaxEye, Dhruva Space, and SatSure are building capabilities across launch vehicles, satellite manufacturing, propulsion, space situational awareness, Earth observation, and downstream analytics.
