Serial entrepreneur Ajeet Singh, who previously cofounded unicorns such as Nutanix and ThoughtSpot, has announced the launch of his third venture, called Different.

Emerging out of stealth mode, the AI-powered martech startup has now raised $48 Mn (nearly ₹453 Cr) in its seed funding round led by General Catalyst. The round also saw participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Meanwhile, former Asana executive Abhishek Pani and former chief technology and product officer (CTPO) at PharmEasy, Abhinav Yajurvedi, have also joined Singh as cofounders at Different.

“Different is an AI marketing system that runs demand generation end-to-end for lean B2B marketing teams,” Singh said in a post on LinkedIn. The startup has teams in San Francisco and Bengaluru, per its website.

Different aims to address enterprise bottlenecks such as hiring specialised talent, engaging multiple external agencies and managing disparate software tools. The startup’s AI platform plans, creates, executes and scales personalised content across channels in accordance with the business context, strategy, audience, and other parameters specified by the user.

It also learns from the results and adjusts accordingly to optimise performance. Prior to its public launch, Different tested its services with early corporate customers, including software firms Descope and Motif.

An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta, Singh has previously worked at companies like Oracle, Honeywell and PwC. Notably, this is not the first time that Singh is setting up his own business.

He previously also cofounded Nutanix in 2009, a hybrid cloud unicorn that went on to list on the Nasdaq in 2016. Singh stepped down from the company in 2012 to launch AI-powered analytics platform ThoughtSpot that same year. ThoughtSpot has raised over $670 Mn to date and was last pegged at nearly $4.5 Bn.

The development comes at a time when a growing number of founders are starting new ventures. Last month, Livspace founder Saurabh Jain and former executive Lalit Mittal banded together to launch a new venture, Gravity.

In May, Zeta founder Bhavin Turakhia launched a new AI startup, Neo, with a personal investment of $30 Mn. Prior to this, Healthians founder Deepak Sahni also said that he was building UN:BLOC, a startup currently in stealth mode.

Earlier this year in April, Inc42 reported exclusively that BharatPe cofounder Shashvat Nakrani was set to join Dubai-based luxury ecommerce platform Luxury For You as its cofounder and CEO.
