Online travel aggregator (OTA) ixigo has entered into a partnership with ride-hailing major Uber to enable train-ticketing via the latter’s app. Launched today (August 18), the service would now allow users to book train tickets via the Uber’s app, check PNR status as well as book a cab to and fro railway stations without switching apps.

Users can access the feature through the ‘Bus & Train’ section on Uber’s home screen or Services menu. They can enter their origin, destination and travel date, select a train and complete the booking within the app. Ticket details and PNR status will also be available on the platform.

The offering is powered by ixigo’s train-booking technology and post-booking services.

This is the second similar arrangement between the two platforms. Earlier in March, Uber partnered with ixigo’s bus-ticketing business, Abhibus, to enter bus ticketing. Meanwhile, the partnership allowed Abhibus to expand the distribution for its services.

AbhiBus aggregates ticket inventory from more than 6,200 bus operators across over 6.5 Lakh routes in India.

A Look At ixigo’s Recent Business Performance

For ixigo, the latest partnership adds on to a string of similar such arrangements to bolster its platforms offtake and increase customer base. In the past, ixigo has announced partnerships with Rapido, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and MakeMyTrip’s redBus, among others.

In its ecosystem, the OTA’s train ticketing business has been its biggest business line in recent times. Its train booking business’ revenue in Q1 FY27 increased 9% YoY to ₹141 Cr while its profit increased 29% to ₹52.7 Cr.

Overall, the OTA reported an 81% jump in its consolidated net profit to ₹34.2 Cr from ₹18.9 Cr in the previous year’s quarter. Operating revenue surged 13% YoY and 16% QoQ to ₹356.8 Cr.

“The train ticketing ecosystem continued to operate under policy constraints, yet against this backdrop, our diversified platform continued to grow, our scaled businesses remained profitable, and we continued gaining share in all the categories we operate in,” CEO Alok Bajpai said.

Beyond travel ticket booking, ixigo has established partnerships with more than 10,000 hotels across nearly 700 towns and intends to double down on the hotel booking segment.

The company also announced an additional investment of ₹36.4 Cr in its online food delivery business Zoop and ₹2.4 Cr in its Singapore subsidiary, ixigo Pte Ltd.

Earlier in June, it had acquired traveltech startup Brevistay in a ₹65.7 Cr deal during the quarter, which brought a large network of hotel partners and business development capabilities.

During the earnings call, CEO Alok Bajpai had noted that the company had been making hefty investments in hotels, tech and AI, and brand and marketing in order to reinvest the company’s operating leverage to unlock future growth.

Uber Expands Its India Ops

The latest partnership gives Uber access to India’s large rail travel market. Indian Railways carried 741 Cr passengers in FY26, making rail travel a key mode of long-distance transportation. For Uber, train ticketing also creates an opportunity to capture the first- and last-mile journeys associated with rail travel.

“With Train Ticket Booking on the Uber app, riders can now book their train tickets, check their PNR status, and seamlessly connect to and from the railway station, all within a single app,” said Arnab Kumar, director, business development, Uber India and South Asia.

Uber already operates pickup and drop-off zones at railway stations in cities including Ahmedabad, Secunderabad and Howrah, and plans to expand the service to more major stations.

Beyond trains, Uber has been rapidly expanding its footprint across India as competition in the ride-hailing market intensifies. Earlier this month, the company expanded its bike-taxi service, Uber Bike, to 100 cities. Uber says it is now present in more than 220 cities, while Uber Bike operates across 18 states and one Union Territory, including Jammu, Tirunelveli, Silchar and Jamnagar.
