Meesho Discontinues CPO Role, Restructures Product Team
Meesho To Issue 411 Cr Bonus Shares Ahead of IPO

Ecommerce major Meesho will restructure its product leadership team and discontinue the post of chief product officer (CPO), the company said in a regulatory filing with the exchanges today.

Following the move, current CPO Prasanna Arunachalam will no longer be designated as senior management personnel (SMP), although he will remain employed within the company. The apparent demotion is with effect from today (September 9).

After stints at Procter & Gamble, Vizury, and Cleartrip, Arunachalam joined Meesho in 2020 as a director of product management. The IIM-Bengaluru alum was promoted to the C-suite in 2025, after holding leadership positions in product management, monetisation and content commerce at Meesho for about five years.

“… As part of an organisational change within the product team aimed at strengthening accountability and ensuring closer alignment of product strategy and execution with the long-term needs of each business, the product leaders currently reporting to the Chief Product Officer will henceforth report directly to their respective Business Heads,” the company said in its disclosure.

The company’s rationale for adopting the new operational setup for the said “long-term needs of each business” is yet to be discerned. “We are currently in the process of finalising Prasanna’s role. He will continue to be a part of Meesho’s senior management team,” a Meesho spokesperson told Inc42.

Meesho made its debut on the bourses in December 2025 as the company raised ₹5,421 Cr from the fresh issue of the IPO. Cofounders Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Kumar, as well as investors like Elevation Capital, Peak XV Partners, and Y Combinator offloaded a cumulative 10.6 Cr shares via the offer for sale (OFS) component of the IPO.

To note, Arunachalam held over 3 Lakh shares or 0.02% stake in the company at the time of its IPO. His annual remuneration for the fiscal year FY25 stood at ₹1.3 Cr.

On the financial front, Meesho cut its net loss by 54.1% YoY to ₹132.8 Cr in Q1 FY27 while operating revenue for the quarter surged 48% to ₹3,707 Cr.

In terms of operating metrics, the net merchandise value of goods sold on its platform rose 34% YoY to ₹11,614 Cr in the quarter, while its number of annual transacting users also grew 29% to 27.4 Cr.

Shares of Meesho ended today’s trading session 2.82% higher at ₹216.95.
