KKR Invests In BookMyShow To Fuel Live Entertainment Push

Online ticketing and entertainment platform BookMyShow has signed definitive agreements with global investment firm KKR for the latter to acquire a minority stake in the company for an undisclosed amount.

The stake will be acquired through funds managed by KKR. The companies did not disclose whether the transaction involves a primary capital infusion, a secondary share purchase, or a combination of the two.

KKR’s investment will support BookMyShow’s next phase of growth as it scales its live entertainment business and deepens its full-stack entertainment offering across India, the companies said in a joint statement.

Founded in 2007 by Ashish Hemrajani, Parikshit Dar and Rajesh Balpande, BookMyShow operates a full-stack entertainment platform spanning movie ticketing, live events, concerts, sports, and experiences. BookMyShow Live serves as the live entertainment division of the company, which also has operations in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE, and Sri Lanka.

BookMyShow has raised $224.5 Mn in funding to date from the likes of Elevation Capital, Accel, Stripes Group, Network18, and TPG, which led its $100 Mn Series D round in 2019.

The investment comes amid a rise in the competition in India’s online ticketing and out-of-home entertainment market.

Eternal-owned District entered the movie and event ticketing segment after acquiring Paytm’s entertainment ticketing business for ₹2,048 Cr in 2024.

District has since expanded its offerings across movie tickets, live events, dining, and other experiences. Meanwhile, Walmart-backed Flipkart is also reportedly planning to begin selling movie and concert tickets in India.

This comes as demand for concerts, festivals and other out-of-home experiences has grown following the pandemic, driven by rising discretionary spending and a young consumer base. The online event ticketing market size reached ₹$3.6 Bn in 2025 and is expected to reach $7.9 Bn by 2034, registering a CAGR of 8.62% during the period.

“The timing of this investment is particularly exciting, as we have significantly expanded our presence across the live entertainment landscape and are seeing the opportunity for India’s entertainment economy grow like never before,” Hemrajani said on the proposed acquisition.

The proposed transaction follows KKR’s commitment earlier this year to invest up to $310 Mn in electric bus manufacturer PMI Electro Mobility and its electric bus platform Allfleet.
