Shortly after the Vietnamese EV major VinFast entered the Indian EV ride hailing space, conglomerates Hyundai Motor and TVS Motor entered the fray with a joint venture.

The duo are piloting an electric ride-hailing platform, Blue Move, in the Delhi NCR region.

The pilot features electric three-wheelers, which are jointly developed by Hyundai and TVS, with select consumers and Hyundai Motor India employees within an 8 to 10 km radius of Hyundai India’s headquarters, which is in Gurugram.

Sources close to the company told Inc42 that the initiative is currently at a “very pilot stage” and remains part of the mobility partnership announced by Hyundai Motor Company and TVS earlier this year.

The development was first reported by the Live Mint.

They added that it was too early to discuss timelines for a wider rollout. “We don’t know how things will go after this because this is a pilot project,” a source said.

Inc42 has reached out to Hyundai Motor India and TVS Motor Company for an official comment. The story will be updated upon receiving a response.

Hyundai is said to have developed the Blue Move app, while TVS is manufacturing the E3Ws. The pilot is currently free for users and is aimed at assessing both the operational feasibility of the ride hailing platform and the performance of the vehicles before a commercial launch is considered.

Vehicles seen in the pilot feature a fully air conditioned passenger cabin, a touchscreen infotainment system, a modern dashboard and an enclosed interior, positioning the offering as a premium alternative to conventional auto rickshaws.

The EVs can be booked through Hyundai’s Blue Move ride hailing app, which is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The pilot is the first visible outcome of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Hyundai and TVS Motor Company in April.

Under the agreement, the companies agreed to move beyond concept development and jointly develop, manufacture and commercialise E3Ws tailored for the Indian market.

They added that the vehicles would undergo localisation, testing and certification before commercial deployment.

The initiative appears to draw on Hyundai Motor Group’s AI-powered demand responsive transport (DRT) platform, Shucle.

The two companies are also exploring whether an affordable electric mobility service built around fixed operating zones can be commercially viable in India.

The development comes as automakers increasingly look beyond vehicle manufacturing to enter the mobility services space, taking on established ride hailing players such as Uber, Ola and Rapido with EV ride hailing services.

Although younger players like Travel, Plush Miles, among others, are gaining traction, the space has been largely untapped after the collapse of BluSmart.

Earlier this month, VinFast parent Vingroup also entered India’s ride hailing market with the launch of its all electric cab service, Green SM Limo, in Delhi NCR, signalling growing interest from global automakers in the country’s shared mobility ecosystem.

At the heart of this trend is India’s rapidly growing EV ecosystem.

According to Inc42’s India’s Electric Vehicle Startup Landscape Report 2025, the market is projected to reach $132 Bn by 2030, with E3Wsd emerging as the fastest-growing segment, boasting nearly 30% penetration and driving the country’s clean mobility ambitions.
