Govt Clears 31 More Electronics Manufacturing Projects Worth ₹7.9K Cr

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 31 new applications under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), amounting to a cumulative ₹6,844 Cr.

MeitY also cleared a further ₹1,033 Cr capacity expansion to existing beneficiary Wipro Global, taking the fresh clearance amount to ₹7,877 Cr.

With this, MeitY has now approved 106 applications over the lifetime of the scheme.

Capital goods led the allocation with five approved applications seeking ₹1,451 Cr in total. Optical transceivers and connectors followed suit in volume terms with three applications approved each.

In terms of value, the second-largest application approved was one for manufacturing camera modules worth ₹740 Cr.

Other high-value categories approved for investment included display modules (₹717 Cr), anode materials (₹582 Cr), and enclosures (₹565 Cr).

The fresh approvals aim to create 9,588 jobs in the component manufacturing space across 10 Indian states. Out of 31 projects, Tamil Nadu leads the pack in terms of number of projects approved at seven. Maharashtra and Haryana accounted for six projects each, followed by Karnataka with five.

Furthermore, the project pipeline is expected to generate ₹82,243 Cr worth of components in total production value. Some of the beneficiaries of the scheme include Kaynes Technology, Dixon Technologies, Wipro, and Tata Electronics.

The scheme was launched in April 2025 and bids to build the country’s electronics component manufacturing ecosystem to a $500 Bn industry by FY32. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the scheme in April 2025 with an outlay of ₹22,919 Cr.

The scheme offers a mix of incentives, including those linked to turnover and capital expenditure.

Notably, the latest series of approvals has also enabled the ECMS programme to surpass its target metrics. While the scheme’s initial target in terms of approved investments was ₹59,350 Cr, this figure has now crossed ₹69,548 Cr. The Centre has also exceeded the cumulative production value target as of now, with the current projection surpassing ₹5.3 Lakh Cr as against the erstwhile target of ₹4.6 Lakh Cr.

In terms of generating employment opportunities, the scheme has created 74,628 jobs against a target of 91,600 thus far.

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme is accelerating the development of a robust localised electronics value chain and going beyond mere assembly into domestic manufacturing of critical components

The approval of the previous batch of proposals under ECMS was announced back in March
