Fundamentum Frontier Advisors Marks First Close Of ₹3,000 Cr Deeptech-Focused Fund
Fundamentum Cofounder Ashish Kumar Launches ₹2,000 Cr AI & Deeptech VC Fund

Ex-Fundamentum’s cofounder Ashish Kumar’s VC firm Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A) has marked the first close of its growth-stage AI and deeptech fund at ₹3,000 Cr, India’s largest fund in the sector.

Additionally, F2A said its LPs have approved plans to increase the size of the fund to ₹3,500 Cr, given the investor demand beyond the current capacity.

The fund has raised capital from both domestic and overseas investors and will divide the funds across two vehicles. It plans to deploy the corpus into 12-15 companies over the next 2-3 years, writing cheques in the range of ₹100-200 Cr each.

It claims to be in the advanced stages of closing three investments within the upcoming quarter.

“More Indian companies are now building deeptech products for global markets, with India as their engineering and commercial base. Having worked with such companies from their early years, I have seen how much the right capital matters once the technology is validated and customers start to scale. We believe that is the stage at which F2A can help them become category leaders,” said general partner Debraj Banerjee.

F2A was founded by Fundamentum Partnership partner and cofounder Ashish Kumar earlier this year. Kumar, Banerjee and Vivek Singla are F2A’s general partners while Fundamentum’s former general partner Nandan Nilekani is the anchor investor for the fund.

The VC investor’s strategy focuses on three sectors: consumer business leveraging AI and frontier technologies, enterprise software, deeptech infrastructure and engineered systems. It targets India-domiciled companies earning revenue from India as well as globally.

Despite the common involvement of team members including Kumar and Nilekani between Fundamentum and F2A, the two are separate legal entities.

Notably, Fundamentum has itself launched its new fund this year – its third fund with a target corpus of ₹2,200 Cr.

Deeptech is the latest investor darling as funding for the sector nearly tripled to $290 Mn across 28 deals in the quarter ending September 2026, as against $105 Mn across 29 deals a year ago, per Inc42’s ‘Indian Tech Startup Funding Report, Q3 2026’ report.

The likes of South Korean gaming giant KRAFTON, global VC investor Accel, and Mumbai-based early-stage VC AUM Ventures have all mentioned plans to bet on this space in the past few months.
