Ex-Unacademy COO’s Startup Emversity Nets $5 Mn

Bengaluru-based Emversity has acquired Kerala-based healthcare talent mobility platform Lanstitut Technologies.

In a statement, Emversity said that Lanstitut will continue to operate as an independent brand following the acquisition. Its cofounders — Khubaib, Murshid Rahman, Yasin Bin Saleem and Abdul — will continue in their current roles.

Founded in 2022, Lanstitut trains Indian nurses and physiotherapists in German language and helps place them in hospitals in Germany. The startup says it has trained nearly 3,000 nurses so far and employs around 200 people.

With this acquisition, Emversity is expanding beyond India and entering international job markets, starting with Germany. It currently focuses on training candidates such as nurses, physiotherapists, hospitality workers and construction staff for jobs within India through its university partnerships and skilling centres.

Lanstitut runs the full process for overseas placements, including language training, certification, visa processing and relocation support. It also claims to have built a community of over 4 Lakh nurses across India, with many new users coming through referrals.

Emversity, founded in 2023 by Vivek Sinha, operates an upskilling platform that works with universities and employers to improve job readiness. It partners with companies to identify hiring gaps and co-develop training modules, which are then embedded into university curricula.

The startup earns revenue from educational institutions, while employers are not charged for these programmes. It has partnered with hospitals and hospitality chains such as Fortis Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals, Aster, KIMS, IHCL (Taj Hotels) and Lemon Tree Hotels to design its courses.

In addition to degree-linked programmes, it also offers short-term certification courses in healthcare and hospitality in affiliation with the National Skill Development Corporation.

Emversity has grown its footprint to over 40 campuses across 23 states from 10 campuses in 2024. It plans to expand this network further in the coming years.

The startup has raised about $46 Mn (around ₹410 Cr) to date, including $30 Mn in its Series A round led by Premji Invest

The acquisition comes as Germany faces a shortage of healthcare workers, with tens of thousands of nursing vacancies and a wider gap expected in the coming years.
