Agentic AI startup Ema has raised $77 Mn (over ₹738 Cr) in a Series B funding round led by Bengaluru-based VC firm Creaegis. Existing investors Accel, S32 and Prosus also participated in the round.

With the round, the startup has now raised about $140 Mn in funding till date. It claims to have quadrupled its valuation from its $50 Mn Series A round in 2025. It refrained from disclosing its latest valuation.

The San Francisco-based startup plans to deploy the fresh capital to scale its go-to-market strategy and expand into new geographies, including Asia Pacific (APAC) and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Ema cofounder and CEO Surojit Chatterjee said, “Enterprises do not need more software. They need outcomes. Our latest funding round will help us drive agentic business transformation at enterprises still stuck in the pilot purgatory.”

Founded in 2023 by former Coinbase CPO Chatterjee and former Okta executive Souvik Sen, Ema builds what it calls ‘universal AI employees’ — agentic AI systems designed to plan and execute enterprise workflow.

Based in San Francisco, Ema has offices in Bengaluru, London and Vancouver. The startup has nearly 200 employees and has primarily focused on enterprise customers in the US and Europe so far.

The SaaS startup currently focuses on automating functions like human resources (HR), information technology (IT) and finance, connecting with more than 250 business applications and systems of record. Its AI Employees can execute tasks across existing enterprise software, check their own work and route sensitive decisions to human employees for approval.

Its customers include Wipro, Hitachi, ADP and PwC.

“Our customers are not running experiments; they are running their HR, IT and Finance operations on AI Employees at a scale of millions of interactions a year,” Chatterjee said.

The fundraise comes as enterprises increasingly move from experimenting with GenAI towards deploying agentic AI systems capable of carrying out business processes autonomously. More and more companies are deploying AI within their workflows to automate tasks and bring down company costs.

Unlike conventional SaaS products that provide software tools for employees, Ema is positioning its AI Employees as systems that can actually execute work across the software businesses already use.

With more organisations bringing AI into their workflows, instances of mass layoffs within the tech ecosystem have become more prevalent. Recent examples include Amazon cutting 16,000 jobs globally, Oracle laying off thousands of employees amid its AI and cloud infrastructure push, and Meta planning significant workforce reductions as it doubles down on AI.

In the Indian startup ecosystem, Livspace cut around 1,000 employees, Innovaccer reduced its workforce by about 350, while GoKwik laid off 100-120 employees as part of an AI-led restructuring.

More recently, Uber announced that it is planning to cut 200-250 jobs in India, with its AI Solutions team reportedly among the affected units, while PayPal has laid off around 220 employees in India as part of a global restructuring.
