Specialty food and nutraceutical ingredients startup Arboreal Bioinnovations has raised ₹230 Cr (about $24 Mn) in a Series A round co-led by EAAA Alternatives and Omnivore, with participation from existing investor Rainmatter by Zerodha.

The Lucknow-based startup plans to deploy the fresh capital to expand its manufacturing capacity, strengthen R&D capabilities, and accelerate the commercialisation of its next generation of functional ingredients.

Founded in 2018 by Swati Pandey and Manish Chauhan, Arboreal Bioinnovations develops proprietary functional ingredients for food, beverage and nutraceutical brands. Its portfolio spans proteins, cocoa-based ingredients, natural zero-calorie sweeteners and functional fibres, designed to address specific nutritional, sensory and commercial requirements.

The startup claims to serve more than 1,100 consumer brands and nutraceutical manufacturers. It currently offers five flagship ingredients – Pyure, Bioprot, COCOCO, Evo and Ori – while several more are under development.

According to the startup, its ingredients have powered more than 300 product launches over the past 18 months.

“This fundraise gives us the ability to invest more deeply in science, manufacturing, talent and long-term innovation, while building a platform capable of creating differentiated ingredients for some of the world’s most important food and nutraceutical brands,” said Chauhan.

The funding comes amid rising demand for clean-label, functional and science-backed food ingredients as brands increasingly focus on protein enrichment, sugar reduction and gut-health products. India’s specialty food ingredients market is projected to grow steadily over the coming years, creating opportunities for ingredient manufacturers catering to both domestic and global brands.

The broader D2C nutrition ecosystem also continues to attract investor interest. In June, D2C nutrition brand TruNative raised $30 Mn in a Series B funding round led by OrbiMed to expand its offline retail presence. Earlier this year, D2C nutrition startup Good Monk secured ₹33 Cr to scale its portfolio of dietary supplements, functional drink mixes and plant-based protein products.

Unlike these D2C startups, Arboreal Bioinnovations is a B2B startup that develops ingredients for food, beverage and nutraceutical brands rather than selling finished nutrition products directly to consumers.
