AirTrunk To Invest $30 Bn In India To Set Up 5 GW Data Centre

Global hyperscale data company AirTrunk plans to invest $30 Bn (nearly ₹3 Lakh Cr) to develop over 5 GW of data centres in India by 2030, making the country a central part of its global expansion strategy.
In a statement, the company said the proposed investment would be among the largest digital infrastructure initiatives currently being considered in India and would help meet the rapidly growing demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI).
AirTrunk plans to develop data centre infrastructure across multiple states and union territories.
AirTrunk founder and CEO Robin Khuda also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day. Following the meeting, PM Modi took to X to welcome AirTrunk’s investment announcement, describing it as one of the largest proposed investments in India’s digital infrastructure sector.
“Such investments will strengthen India’s position as a global hub for cloud computing and AI, while generating employment opportunities, supporting local supply chains and accelerating innovation-led growth,” PM Modi said in his post.
The announcement came after Khuda’s first official engagement with senior government officials in India since the company entered the market by acquiring Lumina CloudInfra in April 2026. The acquisition gave AirTrunk an initial development pipeline of 600 MW across Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, the company said.
During his visit, Khuda met central and state government officials in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh to discuss the infrastructure, energy needs and policy support required to drive AI-led growth in the country.
AirTrunk said India’s digital initiatives, including the IndiaAI Mission and the ₹76,000 Cr (around $9 Bn) India Semiconductor Mission, have created a strong investment environment for long-term growth in cloud computing and AI.
The development comes at a time when several global tech majors are ramping up investments in India’s AI and data centre ecosystem. Last month, ride-hailing giant Uber announced plans to establish its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, marking a major expansion of its technology and innovation footprint in the country.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is reportedly planning a 1 GW data centre project in partnership with TCS, while Reliance Industries is developing data centre facilities in Jamnagar and Visakhapatnam. Amazon has also committed to investing $12.7 Bn in cloud infrastructure in India by 2030.
Earlier, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw claimed Google is seriously considering manufacturing AI servers in India, adding that the government has encouraged global technology companies to explore local production opportunities.
At the centre of this momentum is India’s AI market, which is projected to reach $126 Bn by 2030 and contribute an estimated $1.7 Tn to the country’s GDP by 2035.
